Grandma's Secret Weapon:

Scandinavian Egg Coffee

  1. If you have some time on your hands and want to try something completely different, make yourself and your closest friends some 'Egg Coffee'.
    Here's how to do it:

  2. Get six cups of good clean water boiling in something resembling a porcelain coffee pot.

  3. While that's happening, gingerly beat one large egg in a cup, and save the eggshell (we'll need that).

  4. Add a smidgen of salt to the beaten egg.

  5. Spoon seven tablespoons of your favorite ground coffee (Scandinavian blend to be consistent) into another cup, add 1/3 of the beaten egg and about a 1/3 of the eggshell, crushed, into the coffee grounds. Mix it into a potting-soil like um, paste.

  6. Add this potting-soil like mixture to the rapidly boiling water, and stir.

  7. Bring the whole thing to a boil again for a couple minutes and then turn the heat down to simmer.

  8. If you're lucky and the Scandinavian coffee gods have been appeased, the grounds will sink to the bottom of the pot.

  9. Pour the tasty brew off the top into your favorite mug and ascend to the heights of coffeedom. If the coffee gods were not appeased and your grounds won't sink, you'll have to filter the brew but it comes out almost as good.

  10. Find somebody to do the dishes and go riding.
